23 Weeks

10/12/24

One more week down! We had a little bit of a scare this week when I started having contractions in the middle of the night. Babies heart rate has been a little high and I had some contractions that were aggressive enough to wake me up. Luckily they were very intermittent, inconsistent and not measurable. They put me on the NST monitor to keep an eye on baby for a bit and watch the contractions, but we were both stable and the doctors weren’t concerned about actual labor. Because of the high risk of infection with PPROM they do not want to check for dilation unless they have a very good reason, so we did not do an exam and are hoping I am staying at just 1cm still.

Other than that quick 24 hours of contractions and speedy heart rate, everything has stayed stable and unconcerning! We are officially at 23 weeks and this whole extra week past viability age makes us feel so much more confident about where myself and baby are. The doctors have said that there is a shortage of IV fluids due to the hurricanes so I need to stay extra hydrated to keep contractions at bay. So the family visitors goal this week was to bring in gatorades and electrolytes and all of the extra hydrating fluids I need to assist my body in growing this baby.

My sister flew in from Wisconsin and brought my adorable baby niece with her this week, so that has been a fun break from the normal day-to-day. We also took some time to sneak in some maternity photos! I wasn’t originally planning on doing maternity photos at 24 weeks, but since baby could technically come at any time, we wanted to get a few photos in while we could. Depending on how long baby stays in, we may do another photoshoot in a few weeks/as I get further along or look more pregnant. For now everyone is stable and settling into this weird new life; hoping to stay boring for at least another four weeks!
