25 Weeks
11/2/24
25 weeks, we made it! When I was first admitted we set 25 weeks as our first major milestone. It felt so far away at the time, and it is such a relief to be here now. This was set as our first big milestone because the chances of survival once you hit 25 weeks nearly doubles from the earlier weeks. Once you hit 28 weeks all of baby’s major organs are developed and their survival rates are nearly 100%, with a very low chance of any deficits. So 28 weeks is our next major milestone! Just two weeks away, which is exciting to think about.
I have now been in the hospital over a month and life has been weird to say the least. Luckily I am still able to do a little work. I finished a whole commissioned painting while here so that was interesting, but if I am able to get anything done while sitting here I am going to try! For those of you that do not know, I am a full-time artist. I sell my prints on my website and my Etsy shop, as well as complete custom commissioned pieces, and I also show in galleries. In fact, while I was sitting in triage on the day I was admitted to the hospital I actually received an email that I had been accepted into a huge show I had applied to in Colorado! The Cowgirl Artists of America organization is putting on a show called “Women’s Work” and I was one of a select amount of women artists selected to participate. So that was an exciting email to receive on an otherwise terrible day.
I have a lovely roommate who has been here a couple more weeks than I have. She is also a PPROM mom so it has been nice having someone to chat with who is in the same boat. She is now 33 weeks today so she has been inspiring to me and she sends our baby good vibes to stay in and cook as long as possible! She will be delivering at 34 weeks which is the maximum that they will let our babies stay in after rupturing membranes. At 34 weeks baby is fully developed and is just as safe on the outside as they are on the inside removes any extra risks from mama, so we will have the same plan of inducing at 34 weeks (if we make it that far).
All things considered, we are doing great. Baby has been stable, and aside from living in the hospital, I am doing alright as well. I try to work, chat with my roommate, nurses, and visitors, and take walks whenever I can. One month down, two to go, wish us luck!
